Attorneys: Visitation Agreement Reached On Stebic
JOLIET, Ill. (STNG) ―
Lisa Stebic's relatives will be able to visit her two young children under an agreement reached with her estranged husband, attorneys said Thursday.
The agreement appears to end an eight-month legal battle that began last November when family members of the missing Plainfield woman filed suit in Will County seeking court-ordered visitation with her children.
Lisa Stebic, 37, vanished from her Plainfield home on April 30, 2007. Her estranged husband, Craig Stebic, has been named a "person of interest" by police investigating her disappearance, but he has not been charged with any crime.
Terms of the agreement were sealed by court order. But lawyers for both sides said it provides for visits between the two Stebic children -- now 11 and 13 -- and Lisa Stebic's parents and grandparents.
"Everyone hopes it will go well with the kids and the family members," said attorney Timothy Daw, who represents Lisa Stebic's relatives.
Craig Stebic previously had offered to allow Lisa's relatives to visit with the children under his supervision -- a condition they rejected. In their suit, her relatives sought visits with the children under the supervision of a court-appointed monitor.
Attorneys wouldn't comment on details of the visitation agreement or when visits with the children would occur.
"We were able to come up with certain safeguards on both sides that made everyone comfortable with reuniting the kids with the grandparents," said attorney Dion Davi, who represents Craig Stebic.
