Renowned Mentalist Offers Help In Peterson Case
State Police Refuse The Amazing Kreskin's Aid
BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (CBS) ―
The Amazing Kreskin, a renowned "mentalist," is offering to help in the search for missing Bolingbrook mother Stacy Peterson.
As CBS 2 West Suburban Bureau Chief Mike Puccinelli reports, Kreskin appeared on "The Johnny Carson Show."
For more than two months police and thousands of volunteers have been looking without success for any sign of Stacy Peterson. Now Kreskin, a famed mentalist or thought-reader, has offered to help Illinois State Police with their investigation.
But the state police say they declined his offer saying: "From the beginning we have relying on the team we have in place to move forward in the investigation. We are pleased with its progress. We are going to continue to move forward in that direction with our team."
Kreskin was disappointed.
"I'm sorry that's the case," he said. "The people involved are willing to work with me someway. Perhaps I could produce some information that could be useful to them,"
Although he's known as an entertainer, Kreskin says he has worked on more than 85 cases in a career spanning decades. Most recently he became involved in the disappearance of Scott Javins of Terre Haute, Ind. Javins had been missing for about five years when his car and body were pulled from a river. Police were lead to the location by a tipster. Just weeks before, according to Kreskin's Web site, they were lead to a nearby spot in the river by another man whose memories Kreskin claims were in part reawakened by the mentalist's performance.
Kreskin says he believes he might be of help if Stacy Peterson's family members would work with him, saying he would like to speak with her husband, former Bolingbrook police sergeant Drew Peterson. He has been named a suspect in the disappearance.
Drew Peterson welcomes the possible assistance of The Amazing Kreskin saying, "Anything that will help find Stacy, I'll be happy with."
Drew Peterson also apparently has his own Web site in the works in an effort to get out his side of the story.
