WEST CHICAGO, Ill. (CBS) ― Horses in the road blocked traffic early Thursday in West Chicago.

The horses blocked State Route 59 near North Avenue in the western suburb, authorities said. The road had to be closed for a short time

By just before 9 a.m., the horses had been corralled and the road reopened.

It was not immediately learned where the horses came from or if there was a stable nearby.

Ironically, West Chicago was not the only place in the country where horses were caught loose on area roads Thursday morning.

In the Los Angeles neighborhood of Compton, two ponies and two horses were found wandering through the streets in the early morning hours. Sheriff's officers there said many stables in that area of Los Angeles.
