Craig Stebic, Children Appear Before Grand Jury

Estranged Husband Of Missing Woman Lisa Stebic Was Previously Uncooperative With Police, Would Not Let Them Interview Couple's Children

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Craig Stebic, estranged husband of missing Plainfield mother Lisa Stebic, and the couple's two children appeared before a Will County grand jury Wednesday, according to The Naperville Sun. Authorities had been trying to interview the children for months.

It has been more than six months since Lisa Stebic disappeared. Despite much media attention across the country police don't appear any closer to finding the missing woman.

Lisa Stebic was last seen by her husband on April 30, 2007 when he says she left their home to go workout. When she didn't return, he says he called a family friend to ask about her whereabouts. That friend called police. Craig Stebic has been named by police as a person of interest in her disappearance.

Plainfield Police Chief Donald Bennett said his department is working with the state's attorney's office, pressing to set up an interview with the children by calling them in front of a grand jury. Craig Stebic has not allowed authorities to speak with the children since early in the investigation.

Bennett said Craig Stebic's decision last month to cut off his children from his wife's sisters is in keeping with what he's learned of him so far. He claims Craig Stebic has been uncooperative since his wife disappearance.
