Man Fatally Struck By Metra Train In West Suburb
WHEATON, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A pedestrian was fatally struck by a Metra train in west suburban Wheaton Thursday afternoon.
A man was struck by a train about 12:30 p.m. at Chase Street on the Union Pacific Railroad, according to Wheaton Police Deputy Chief Tom Meloni.
"At this point, it remains under investigation whether or not his death was accidental," Meloni said.
Two westbound Metra trains were delayed after a body was found on the tracks near west suburban Wheaton, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller.
A westbound Union Pacific West train that left at 12:24 p.m. and was heading to Elburn was delayed 65 minutes due to police activity. Another Union Pacific West train that had just left Ogilvie Station was also delayed, Miller said.
As of 2 p.m., both trains were on the move, one train running 65 minutes behind schedule, and another train operating 37 minutes behind schedule.
Wheaton police have tentatively identified the man but have not yet notified next of kin, Meloni said.
The Lake County Coroner's Office has confirmed a man was fatally struck by a train at the address but could not confirm an identity Thursday afternoon.
