Comments that Drew Peterson's friends reportedly caught on wiretaps have struck a nerve with the loved ones of Stacy Peterson and Kathleen Savio.
Savio's family says they're grateful people close to Drew Peterson are coming forward to try to help state police build a case against him. Savio was Peterson's third wife.
Her sister, Anna Doman, referring to a comment Peterson allegedly made about having Savio cremated after she was found dead in a bathtub, said Peterson had wanted Savio cremated but she and other family members would not have it.
"We were suspicious from the beginning, but no, we didn't want her cremated," Doman said. "I'm glad we didn't."
Savio's body was exhumed in November of 2007, following Peterson's fourth wife, Stacy Peterson's, disappearance. Savio's death was subsequently ruled a homicide.
Stacy Peterson's friends and family are also glad Drew Peterson's friends are speaking out.
"We do believe we're going to have an answer sooner than later and that's what we're holding out for," said family friend and spokesperson Pamela Bosco.
One thing they are not holding out for is finding Stacy Peterson alive. They believe Drew Peterson allegedly referring to "her remains" in a comment clearly proves that she is dead.
"It's contradicting prior when he said she ran off with another man, so we knew that wasn't true all along and now he's changing it talking about her remains," said Stacy Peterson's sister, Cassandra Cales.
While both Stacy Peterson and Savio's families say it's disturbing to hear and read what Drew Peterson has to say, they believe in the end, it might actually prove to be the best evidence against him.
"Drew just needs to keep talking, seems like he's going to bury himself," Doman said.
CBS 2's Mai Martinez spoke with Drew Peterson by phone Wednesday about the alleged recordings made by his long-time friends. He didn't seem worried at all about the claim.
In fact, he said, "If they've got a tape, it's going to clear me more than anything."
