Drew Peterson has been charged only in the death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. His fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, has been missing for more than 18 months.
And as CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports, relatives of both women showed up Friday to see Peterson in court.
Savio's niece Melissa Doman was among them.
"It is so satisfying to see him where he should have been five years ago," Doman said.
Prosecutors plan on using comments Savio made before her death in their case against Peterson.
"My aunt Kitty was a very determined woman, and it's becoming very, very apparent that she can't be silenced, even from the grave," Doman said.
Before and after his court appearance, Peterson maintained his cavalier demeanor, even cracking jokes.
"He was taking this to the limelight," Savio's nephew Charlie Doman said, "reality shows
He missed a trip to the Bunny Ranch, but, you know, he was trying to become a movie star. Movie star's going to do 60 years."
Cassandra Cales, Stacy Peterson's sister, hopes the Savio case will open the door to leads in her sister's disappearance.
"Maybe somebody'll come forward, and I'm hoping that they do," Cales said. "If Drew Peterson had help with what he did to my sister I hope that they come forward now that they know that he's locked up and can't harm them.
"If they have any answers about my sister's whereabouts please come forward."
Cales said the only thing that could really bring closure to her family is bringing Stacy home and getting her the justice she deserves.
