1 Killed In Head-On Crash Near Batavia

BATAVIA, Ill. (CBS) ― One person was killed and another injured in a two-vehicle accident near west suburban Batavia on Thursday morning.

At 5:30 a.m., the Kane County Sheriff's Department was notified of a crash with injuries on Fabyan Parkway between Main Street and Hughes Road west of Batavia in unincorporated Kane County, according to a department release.

The sheriff's department said a vehicle traveling south on Fabyan toward Main Street was hit head-on by a vehicle traveling north. The second vehicle apparently was trying to pass in a no-passing zone where visibility is limited.

The driver of the car that was hit was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said that person's identity was being withheld pending notification of family.

Another person suffered from apparently non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, the release said.

The accident closed Fabyan between Main and Hughes, and it remains closed as members of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team study evidence. The sheriff's department said there is no timetable for reopening the road.
