It's a surveillance tape sure to make your jaw drop a woman at a suburban ice cream parlor caught taking money from a little girl.
The girl and her friend were at a Deerfield Baskin-Robbins store, put their money down on the counter and looked in the freezer to pick their flavors.
A woman in line took her own ice cream and their cash. Officers are still looking for that woman.
"It's an issue of trust," said Deerfield Police Chief John Sliozis. "They put their money on the counter, thought it was safe and secure and then it disappeared."
The surveillance video shows the woman paying for her ice cream and getting her change on May 15. All the while two girls stood behind her in line.
The girl whose money was taken told officers they even had a conversation about flavors. The conversation was normal, with smiles exchanged.
The woman looked over as the girl put a $20 bill on the counter, and perhaps she sees opportunity.
When the girl and her friend turn their backs to try a few samples, the woman takes her own purchase and the child's cash.
The chief says the woman had three children with her, so there's a chance she was a little harried and didn't realize what she did.
Either way Sliozis wants her to come forward. If it was a mistake, there will be no charges. If not, it's a misdemeanor.
