BURR RIDGE, Ill. (CBS) ― It has happened again -- another armed robbery of an NBA star in the Chicago area. This time, the victims are Eddy Curry and his family.

Police say three masked robbers, got into the Curry's suburban home, bound the family with duct tape and made off with cash and jewelry. The same thing happened to the Miami Heat's Antoine Walker less than a month ago, as CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports.

Family friend and brother of New York Knicks coach and general manager Isaiah Thomas, Mark Thomas spoke on behalf of Eddy Curry. The Knicks center and his family went through an unimaginable ordeal at their west suburban home early Saturday morning.

"At this time they're fine, everybody's doing well and at this time, they don't have any comment," said Mark Thomas.

"Three armed masked men entered the resident, restrained Mr. Curry's family. Mr. Curry and one employee with duct tape and fled the home with cash and jewelry," said Burr Ridge Deputy Police Chief John Madden.

CBS 2 is not revealing the location of Curry's home to protect his privacy. Police say they're investigating how the three bandana-wearing gunmen got into the house with Curry and his family inside around 12:15 a.m. They're also going over surveillance video from the camera, mounted at Curry's front door.

"We do not believe this was a random act due to certain circumstances in the investigation at this point," said Madden.

In fact, Burr Ridge Police have talked with Chicago Police. That's because less than three weeks ago, Miami Heat star and South Side native Antoine Walker was also tied up with duct tape in his River North home and robbed of cash and jewelry at gun point.

Miami Heat star forward Antoine Walker was robbed on July 9 while at his River North mansion. He was leaving his residence when a group of men forced him back into his house. Walker later said he feared for his life and intendend to move.

"We are interested in that case and our detectives have been in contact with the Chicago Police Department," said Madden. "That's all I can say at this point. We don't have any information saying it's the same individuals."

No one was injured in either attack. Police say a total of $10,000 in cash was taken from Curry's home. The value of the jewelry still hasn't been determined. Curry,24, a former Chicago Bull who was born in south suburban Harvey started playing for the Knicks in 2005.

The team issued a statement which says: "The Knicks have "been made aware of the situation by Eddy and are extremely thankful that Eddy and his family are safe. He told us it was a very traumatic experience. At this time we're aware that the local authorities are handling the situation," said Jonathan Supranowitz, Knicks media relations VP.
