Blood Found In Car Of Husband Of Missing Woman

Craig Stebic Says Blood Is From Animals He Hunted

 SLIDESHOW: Zoo Babies: Cuteness Unleashed

by Mike Puccinelli
PLAINFIELD, Ill. (CBS) ― Lisa Stebic disappeared three weeks ago on April 30, and Monday her estranged husband had an explanation for some blood that was found in his truck.

As CBS 2 West Suburban Bureau Chief Mike Puccinelli spoke with Craig Stebic by phone. He said any blood found in his truck was from animals he hunted.

A report in Sunday's Naperville Sun stated that police got a warrant to search the Stebic home after DNA matched stains from a tarp in Craig's truck to Lisa Stebic's blood.

Craig responded by saying he does not have a tarp.

Asked if police had seized a tarp from his truck, Craig said no, they had not. CBS 2 asked Plainfield Deputy Police Chief Mark Eiting about the tarp.

"The search warrant is under seal by the court and any comment about the warrant would be in contempt of court," Eiting said.

Craig Stebic's attorney responded to a question about blood evidence by saying, "There are no details as to the quantity of blood retrieved. There is no confirmation even from the Plainfield police department that this is fact a true statement."

When CBS 2 asked Craig about reports that Lisa's blood was found in his truck he said, "There's nothing there."

He also said he hunts all the time and had last used his truck to haul deer in November. When I asked him about using the truck for recent hunting trips he referred to the last weekend before Lisa disappeared saying, "We used it to hunt rabbits that weekend."

Craig's lawyer says the reports about the discovery of Lisa's blood in Craig's truck have upset his client.
