Stuck Kitten Rescued From Drain Pipe

PINE TOWNSHIP., Pa. (CBS) ― A kitten is counting its nine lives after an unusual rescue from a sewer pipe.

The stray kitten found its way into the Bandy Family's drain pipe and got stuck in Pine Township, Pa. early Sunday.

"I reached down to try to pull the kitten out of the well and it decided the drain pipe was another way out so it started to walk and went down the drain pipe," said Elaine Bandy.

After calling a number of agencies on Sunday, Bandy remembered a news story about Roto-Rooter saving a cat one other time.

Mike Wetmore, of Roto-Rooter, came out and managed to free the kitten after three hours of digging in rainy, stormy conditions.

The kitten was alive and well but thinner, exhausted and dirty.

Wetmore says he will give the kitten a home.

"Getting it out was the easy part," said Wetmore. "It was just dealing with all of the elements and just shoring it up was the most difficult part."

The rescue was free of charge to the Bandy Family.

Wetmore says he hasn't thought of a name yet for the kitten but he's toying with the names "Lucky" or maybe even "Survivor".
