Vice President Joe Biden gave the graduation address at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs Wednesday.
Under sunny skies at the academy Biden told the graduates that they will be asked to shape a new history for their country and that he has no doubt they will be up to the task. He also said the security of the country relies on having a strong, growing air force.
During the speech a wind gust knocked over the teleprompter. That prompted the vice president to quip that he's in trouble with the president, who uses a teleprompter for all of his speeches.
As the teleprompter fell over during Biden's speech, he said, "What am I going to tell the President when I tell him his teleprompter is broken? What will he do then?"
The graduation ceremony ended with the traditional tossing of the caps and an aerial show put on by the Air Force Thunderbirds.
The Air Force Academy had 1,046 graduates this year -- 874 men and 172
women. The class included six international students. American
graduates are 2nd lieutenants who will serve at least five more years
in the military.
