A guilty plea was entered Thursday in Chicago's first foie gras case.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Julie Mann reports, an attorney for Doug Sohn, owner of Hot Doug's on the Northwest Side, entered the plea before a city hearing officer.
The hot dog purveyor was cited last month for continuing to sell hot dogs with foie gras as an ingredient after receiving a warning from health inspectors to stop offering the delicacy at his restaurant, at 3324 N. California Ave.
Last year, Chicago aldermen passed a ban on foie gras ban due to the inhumane way the dish is produced -- geese and ducks are force-fed to plump up their livers.
Sohn will have to pay a fine of $250. Foie gras is no longer listed on his online menu. The Chicago Health Department could be called in to stop the serving of foie gras at Hot Doug's for a second time, but only if another complaint is issued.
