Dog Crashes Van Into Coffee House
Canine Got Behind Wheel, Put Vehicle In Gear
ST. JAMES, N.Y. (CBS) ―
A dog left inside a running van put the vehicle in drive, causing it to crash into a Long Island coffee house on Wednesday night.
Police said no one was injured in the incident, which damaged the glass window and some patio furniture at Cool Beanz coffee shop in St. James, CBS station WCBS-TV reported.
Police said Bryan Maher, a 60-year-old New York area resident, left the van running while he went into the shop. His dog, Bentley, somehow knocked the controls.
"I took the keys and came inside to talk to someone," Maher said. "I then noticed a vehicle coming toward the building. I didn't know it was my vehicle. There was Bentley at the wheel."
