Black Bear On Tape Entering Calif. Hospital

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (CBS) ― Seeing a bear in Lake Tahoe is not an all that out of the ordinary, reports CBS station KPIX-TV. But it's a bit unusual to see a 200-pond mass of hair and claws entering a building.

Patients and doctors at a hospital at Lake Tahoe had a bit of a scare last week when such an incident happened.

A California black bear strolled through the first set of automatic sliding glass doors at Barton Memorial Hospital's main entrance.

The hospital's surveillance cameras caught the bear on film. Once the animal came upon the second set of automatic doors it became spooked and headed the other direction.

Ironically, at the front of the hospital stands a 6-foot-tall fiberglass "Dr. Bear" sculpture.

The bear was likely looking for food or just exploring. Hospital employees say the animal wasn't at all threatening.
