'Animal House' Raided In New Jersey

At least 70 cats in and around the home and eight dogs were found at the property on Monday.

Officials in Gloucester County, N.J., made a startling discovery inside a home after serving a warrant on Monday.
The New Jersey SPCA raided the home on 800 Harker Avenue in West Deptford and according to sources; they found at least 70 cats in and around the home and eight dogs, reports KYW-TV correspondent Calvin Hughes.
The owners of the home are James Penney, 68, and his wife, Rita.
Rita tried to fight animal control officers when they came to remove the cats and the diseased dogs and she was arrested. It is likely that the home will be condemned.
The array of cats and dogs are now in the care of veterinarians but the outlook does not look promising for most of the animals.
"Many of the cats are not going to survive, many appear to have leukemia, they are staggering and falling down," said Captain Sy Goldberg of the SPCA.
Numerous cats could be seen outside the home wandering around the property and even on rooftops. Many of the cats were malnourished and most were on the verge of death.
Neighbors have been complaining for months about the conditions. "There are flies on my window, I open my door and there are flies on my door, there's flies in my house," said Sue Camilli.
Rita Penney will likely face charges for each of the animals who have to be put down according to the SPCA. Also, she will face obstruction of justice and for interfering with police officers.
