San Francisco Cafe Unveils $20,000 Coffeemaker

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS) ―
A San Francisco coffeehouse has purchased a coffeemaker that caffeine aficionados say could make people think of fine coffee in the same way they think of fine wine, reports CBS station KPIX-TV in San Francisco.
The $20,000 siphon bar is the only halogen-powered model in the U.S., says James Freeman of the Blue Bottle Cafe.
Freeman said the machine gives him better control of temperature and other parts of the brewing process to create a coffee experience.
Coffee drinkers are paying $9 to $11 for an 18-ounce pot, which is brewed in less than four minutes.
Cafe patrons say the pricey brew has subtle, distinct flavors, much like wine.
"People are very much connoisseurs when it comes to their coffee," said Pete Oshinski of the California Culinary Academy, "and they want all their elements to be unique."
