A shot of a bare-chested President Obama on the cover of a Washington, D.C., magazine had some fans swooning while others voiced suspicions that the racy image had been doctored.
Political reporter Garrett Graff from
The Washingtonian told AFP the magazine had been swamped by readers who had seen the May edition showing Obama wearing nothing but swimming trunks and sunglasses, next to the line: "Our new neighbor is hot."
"Between the emails, telephone calls and blog comments about the cover photo, we're certainly well into the hundreds and probably fast approaching the 1,000 mark," Graff told AFP. "And the comments are very split: a lot of people think it's a great celebratory picture of the president and others disagree with it."
The president is number 2 out of 26 "Reasons to Love Living" in Washington, according to the magazine's Capital Comment Blog. The blog also invited readers to comment on whether they found the photo inappropriate.
The issue featuring Obama on the cover went on sale Thursday.
