15-Car Pileup Snags Tri-State Tollway
No One Was Injured
NORTHBROOK, Ill. (CBS) ―
A 15-car pileup backed up traffic for 8 miles on the Tri-State Tollway Friday morning, but no one involved in the accident was injured.
The car happened at 10 a.m. between Willow and Lake Cook roads on the Tri-State (I-294), Illinois State Police said.
The crash happened in a single express lane in a construction zone area, according to Illinois State Police District 15 Master Sgt. Ed Petrik said.
Ultimately, only four cars were towed, state police said.
It was unclear Friday morning how the crash happened but State police said later Friday that one vehicle may have stopped suddenly causing a chain reaction, but no one was ticketed.
Traffic was backed up for about 8-miles as of 11:30 a.m. on the Tri-State for more than one hour, but everything was reopened and moving again Friday afternoon.
