CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
Two men were arrested in connection with a string of robberies spanning several months in the South and Southwest Sides of Chicago that primarily targeted beauty salons, according to police.
Chicago Police arrested Jesus Velazquez, 36, and Rafael Velazquez, 37, both of the 7700 block of South Sawyer on Thursday after they attempted to rob a beauty shop in Little Villag,e according to Chicago Police Officer Michael Fitzpatrick.
Wentworth and Harrison Area detectives were in the vicinity of the beauty shop Thursday after studying the pattern of robberies and setting up perimeters in select areas, Fitzpatrick said.
After the robbery occurred, police spoke to witnesses and received a tip of a partial license plate that led police to the offenders, Fitzpatrick said.
Jesus was charged with 25 counts of armed robbery and Rafael was charged with 33 counts of armed robbery, the release said.
The robberies occurred from May through September 2009 and targeted businesses during operating hours, police said. The offenders would come in and demand cash from the registers and purses of the customers, Fitzpatrick said.
Both men appeared in bond court Saturday.
Fitzpatrick confirmed the two men were related but were not brothers.
