Viewer Comments: Sarah Palin's Personal Life

We asked viewers if you think all of the attention paid to Sarah Palin's personal life, such as her teen daughter's pregnancy, is appropriate. Here are some of your answers:

I think if we ignore Sarah Palin's unwed daughter's pregnancy we are sending a wrong message to our teens. It is not OK to be 17, unwed and pregnant I think if Sarah was not on the Republican ticket her daughter would not marry the father after all, it's been 5 months and no wedding yet. - Joanne

Normally, I would agree with Sen. Obama - family members should be off limits - HOWEVER, Palin MADE this an issue with her staunch anti-choice beliefs and her veto of a bill that would fund housing for unwed TEEN mothers, and her anti-birth control, anti-sex education in classrooms beliefs and her pathetic attempt to HIDE her daughters pregnancy with her own infant. If she isn't embarrased about this now, why did she try and hide it then? Her party constantly makes themselves out to be the MORAL COMPASS OF THE USA, and her hard-right beliefs of anti-choice everything made this an issue - simple as that. – Lynn

It is not appropriate but all know this is what is down in every election. Nobody has mentioned the fact that a mother for her own ego and ambitions would allow her own pregnant 17 year old daughter, her child to be exposed by front page pictures and news across the world. Yes family is private why didn't she consider her own child as private! – lila wynne

I think if this was a Democrats daughter would not even hear about it from the media. I think the reason that this is such a big deal is because the Democrats wanted to be the first party to put an African-American or Women in the white house and heaven forbid a Republican could do that!!! – Beckie

I think we should be spending our time talking about what Palin WILL do for our country instead of wasting time on very sensitive and personal matters that have NO bearing on her performance as a Vice President. IF she was doing things in the Oval office that were not moral than that would be different !!!!! - Katharine

It is disgusting with all the comments about a situation which thousands of families have but they use the abortion murder to clean up their mess. Give credit where credit is due. – Jeanette

Sarah Palin 17-year-old daughter Bristol Palin is pregnant.Oh my lord so much for family values.Didn't Sarah Palin teach her daughter not to have sex at such a young age.No sexual intercourse for you young lady. - William from Chicago.

My co-workers & myself believe that the media is trying to make an embarrassment of Gov Palin & the Republican party. When in fact the daughter's pregnancy is a real family issue & only shows that they have real problems like everyone else. This issue does not have any effect on how Gov Palin would do her job. On the other hand look at all the politicians (Male) that womanize, bare children out of wedlock & get away with all types of immoral behavior. This exemplifies how there is a double standard within our government. – Karen

I dont think the the attention of Sahar Palin would be on her daughter, Sarah is a presidential canidate will good strenght and forum, what happened to her daughter is totally upon heself the personal family issue is that only.Sarah should be given the chance to show the US what she can do as VP for the United States..leae her daughter out of it and concentate on a new VP in Sarah Palin... – Roxanne

I do think some attention to a candidates family is useful. If elected she will be representing all americans. What values she passes on to her children can provide a keen insight into how she would behave as vice president. However, casting every aspect of her or her family in a bad light is wrong because she is living, and dealing, with the real issues that americans are facing today. – Joe Smith

We must remember that even though this is a person family issue; we must remember that the mother is seeking a position of Vice-President and that her personal life will be looked at and how well she parents is an important issue. – Glenda

Instead of trying to dig up dirt on Sarah Palin, the news media should concentrate on her RECORD and STOP playing up to Obama. Their discriminatory coverage of him stinks. – Roberta Walker

Everyone except the media seems to agree that her daughter's issues are personal and irrelevant to the process and that the commentary should stop. "Troopergate" is a much more serious concern. Her selection seems impulsive, I question her creds to be president some day, and I question how many independent, Hillary or younger voters she will pull to the GOP side. – Joe Moore

Aside from the scandals, I think she is a poor selection. In a year that Republicans are preaching "experience", there are far better candidates than a one term Governor from a small state (AK has only 600k people) and the former mayor of a village (Wasilla has only 5k residents). What was McCain thinking? Or did he have a choice? – Rick

I am not impressed with Sarah Palin. She should have declined the offer to be VP and take care of her handicapped baby. He will need plenty of love and attention that will be difficult with a mom that is a VP. She should have put her ego aside and declined the offer. If Obama had a daughter that was unmarried and pregnant, she would not have been handled so gently. Nasty stereotypical racial comments would be flying. Palin has little regard for her daughter's feelings. By accepting the VP position, she allows her daughter to be the talk of the town in order to promote her pro-life agenda. Charity begins at home. A mom should protect her daughter. – Mary Maillard

At best she's a selfish person who put personal gain ahead of family, at worst she is a corrupt power abusing typical pol with no qualifications. Nice going McCain what a choice. – Kevin

I think you media morons are so preoccupied with trashing ANYone;, man, woman, or child, in an attempt to advance your collective personal agenda (socialism), that you ask this question in the first place. If the Democrats put up a 72 y/o war hero with decades of Congressional experience (who was black) and the Republicans put up some pretty white boy who was eloquent, and articulated a vague vision of a beautiful future, but had no tangible experience, how would you react? Maybe that will help you understand why "Fair and Balanced" and "you decide" resonates with so many people. I just heard your clown preface a comment with "what should be a private family matter...." and then go on to ignore that with a comment against Republicans. At least you didn't "lose" the applause to W's speech tonight like NBC did. Nice job NBC, of trying to make him look like an idiot. Talk about bias! Sheeeze! You guys are a joke. I'm ready to pay for cable just so I can watch Fox and avoid the irritation of stations like yours. – Harold Paul

Bless her and family. But if this had been a Dem.situation it would have been the most sinister of all evils with their peers. – LIONEL

I think her selection is a joke, and sad at the same time. Any woman with any sense will see that she was selected merely as an attempt to gain the female voters. Since when do we elect based upon sex instead of issues, strength and leadership abilities? If she can't openly discuss her own family issues with success, how can we expect results as the president of the senate? You can get away with quick, "shoot from the hip" action in remote Alaska, but NEVER will that be tolerated nor accepted in Washington. Signed: A Republican destined to vote for the Democrat party for the first time. – Doug
