3 Inches Of Rain Soak Chicago Area
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
Downpours that began in the Chicago area late Thursday morning continued to drench the city into the night.
Two to three inches of rain have accumulated as of 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
A flash flood warning was issued for parts of Cook, Kendall and DuPage counties, set to expire by 2 a.m. Friday. A flash flood warning indicates that flooding is imminent or occurring, according the National Weather Service.
CBS 2's Steve Baskerville reports the rain should taper off toward midnight, with snow showers in the middle of the night. Expect to wake up to winter weather Friday morning.
A number of streets around the city and suburbs are closed due to flooding. Along the north end of Lake Shore Drive the Michigan Avenue underpass, North Avenue and Bryn Mawr Avenue are closed.
In the suburbs: Bloomingdale Road is closed due to flooding at Army Trail Road in Glendale Heights; in Wheaton Main Street is closed between Roosevelt Road and Illinois Street; in Des Plaines Golf Road is closed between River Road and Route 21; and in Warrenville Winfield is closed between Butterfield and Warrenville.
The water is expected to recede by the morning commute.
Were the weather colder Thursday, the area could have been contending with some 20 inches of snow, according to Baskerville.
