Rain Brings Travelers Delays, Cancellations

CHICAGO (STNG) ― Many travelers through Chicago's airports have found themselves facing long waits and canceled flights Thursday due to rain and inclement weather in the area.

At O'Hare International Airport, more than 200 flights have been canceled and flight delays are averaging 45 minutes to an hour, according to a release from the Chicago Department of Aviation.

Midway Airport has not seen any cancellations but a few flights are delayed about 45 minutes, the release said.

Travelers should contact their airline to check the status of their flight.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for northern Cook County, Lake County, and extreme southeastern McHenry County that will be in effect until 8:30 a.m. Friday.

The rain is expected to taper off Thursday night, but runoff from the rainfall will cause rivers, creeks and streams to rise overnight and rapidly rising waters have already been detected, the weather service said.

In some areas, rainfall totals have reached close to three inches from Thursday's storms.

In addition, DuPage, Kendall and Will counties are under a flood advisory.
