Felon Arrested After Police Chase, Crash
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
Police from south suburban Markham and Robbins apprehended a convicted felon on the South Side Monday night following a chase that ended in a crash.
About 6:45 p.m., a K-9 Unit patrol officer in Markham witnessed a vehicle speeding in the 16700 block of South Crawford Avenue, according to Markham Police Chief Wade Ingram.
As the officer attempted to pull over the vehicle, he heard a radio dispatch about police in Country Club Hills looking for a stolen vehicle that matched the plate number and description of the one he saw speeding, Ingram said.
The vehicle fled, leading the officer on a chase, Ingram said. A squad car from south suburban Robbins assisted the Markham squad on the chase, which led them to 70th Street and South Marshfield Avenue in Chicago.
When they reached the intersection, the Robbins squad car crashed into the offender's vehicle, causing the Markham squad car to strike the back of the Robbins squad car, Ingram said. The offender again attempted to flee but was apprehended by police.
The offender, identified as Thadius MacNeil, had a no-bond warrant out for his arrest by the Cook County Sheriff's Department for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and DUI, Ingram said. He was also cited by Chicago Police for fleeing and alluding police, driving without a license, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving without insurance.
Ingram said MacNeil, who last resided in Country Club Hills, has an extensive criminal history and is being held in the Markham Police Department.
No one was injured in the crash, except for MacNeil who was treated for minor injuries and released from Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey.
