Hankering For Hooters Leads To Crash In Park Ridge
Victim Was Trying To Make U-Turn
PARK RIDGE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A Chicago man with an apparent sudden craving for Hooters allegedly caused a rollover accident Wednesday afternoon in Park Ridge while attempting to turn in the direction of the restaurant.
Agustino Ruiz, 46, of the 4800 block of North Central Park Avenue was westbound in the curb lane of Higgins Road about 4:30 p.m. when his vehicle struck the passenger side of a Jeep that was traveling west in the left lane, said Park Ridge Police Cmdr. Lou Jogmen.
Jogmen said Ruiz, "decided he wanted to go to Hooters and decided to make a U-turn" across three lanes of traffic after passing the establishment on the Chicago side of the street. As he made the turn he reportedly collided with the Jeep, causing the vehicle to flip over and land on its roof just west of the restaurant.
The driver of the Jeep was not seriously injured and was able to exit the vehicle by the time police arrived, Jogmen said. Park Ridge police plan to present him with a "Saved by the Belt" award for wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Jogmen credits the seat belt with saving his life.
Police arrested Ruiz and charged him with driving with a suspended license, Jogmen said.
