Overnight Showers Pour Up To 6 Inches Of Rain
Flash Flood Warnings Issued For Cook And South Suburban Counties, Northwest Indiana
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
As much as six inches of rain fell in some parts of the Chicago area overnight, and a flash flood warning has been placed in effect for several counties.

The flash flood warning is in effect until 2 p.m. for Cook, Will and Kankakee counties and in Illinois and Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties in Indiana. The warning has been extended to 3 p.m. for LaSalle and Grundy counties.
LaSalle and Grundy counties also got the brunt of the rain, particularly a stretch from Oglesby to Spring Valley, and from Coal City to Mazon, the National Weather Service reported.
CBS 2's Mary Kay Kleist reported that many Northern Illinois counties saw 2 to 4 inches of rain, while Lake and Porter counties in Indiana got 3 to 6 inches.
In Valparaiso, the total rainfall so far has measured 6.17 inches.
The rain has been enhanced by moisture coming in all the way from the Gulf of Mexico, and has been falling in the same places since the showers began rather than moving or passing on.
Farther north, only passing showers were seen by the 6 a.m. hour, and the area was expected to dry out by 5 p.m.
