At Least 10 Hospitalized In Overnight Shootings
No Victims Appear Seriously Wounded
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
Shootings throughout the city have hospitalized at least 10 people late Friday through early Saturday. None of the victims, as of early Saturday, however, appeared to have been seriously wounded.
Just before 10 p.m. Friday, a 17-year-old man was in the 400 block of North Laramie Avenue when two men, believed to be 19 and 20 years old, approached him and fired shots, police said. Both offenders fled the scene following the shooting.
The man was hit in the right ankle, and taken in "stable" condition to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park.
Just after 10 p.m., two people were shot in the 8100 block of South Racine Avenue, police said early Saturday.
An 18-year-old man and a 24-year-old man heard gunfire before discovering they had been shot, according to police. Both of the men were in good condition at Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center late Friday. One was shot in the right arm, the other in his right shoulder.
Offender information was not available.
Just minutes later about two miles away, another teen was shot in the 8300 block of South Whipple Street, police said.
The 18-year-old man was approached by an unknown person who began firing shots and struck him in the groin, police said.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in "stable" condition.
About 10:20 p.m., another person was shot in the foot in the 1200 block of South Avers Avenue, police News Affairs Officer David Banks said.
A 25-year-old man was leaving a store when he was approached by an "unknown amount of offenders," police said. He was shot in the left foot and taken to Loretto Hospital in good condition.
Just before 11 p.m., another shooting occurred in the Little Village neighborhood.
A male whose age was unknown was shot in the buttocks in the 1900 block of South Troy Street.
An unknown offender wearing a "black hooded sweater" approached the man and began firing shots, police said.
The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "stable" condition.
Just after midnight on Saturday, a 19-year-old man was crossing the street near his home in the 7000 block of South Damen Avenue when he saw people running and heard gunfire, police said.
The man ran to his home, where he realized he had been shot in the right leg. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in "stable" condition.
About 12:30 a.m., a 31-year-old man was shot in the left leg on the 7700 block of South Stewart Avenue, police said. He was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital and his condition was stable.
About 12:42 a.m., a 32-year-old man on the 3700 block of West 18th Street suffered a gunshot wound to his left elbow, according to police News Affairs. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.
A 19-year-old man was shot in the right foot on the 800 block of North Lawler Avenue about 1:45 a.m., police said. He was approached by a man who fired a handgun at him before fleeing the scene, according to News Affairs. The victim was taken to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, where he was listed in good condition.
