Viewer Comments: Obama's Acceptance Speech

We asked viewers what they thought of Barack Obama's acceptance speech Thursday night in Denver. Here are some of your responses:

He knows how to give a good speech but it really ends there. He is empty and is wrong for this country. --Andre

Sen. Barack Obama's nomination acceptance speech was great. --William from Chicago.

Disturbing. We are electing a President, not a King. Hitler filled stadiums and gave rousing speeches, too... --Cheila

I felt Barack Obama's speech had class, style and substance. He portrayed himself as a future world leader, but at the same time someone who is just like you and I. Barack Obama IS the man!!!!! --Patrick

The first time in more than 40 years of voting eligibility I felt enthused by a political convention and presidential candidate. Obama KNOWS what the problems are in this country and addressed them intelligently. Even if he cannot deliver each and every situation he will at least try which is significantly more than his predecessor or his opponent. I was happy to see 'the ordinary people' speaking to the country (and the world). The convention was well conceived and truly different than any before. I was also happy to have Obama and other politicos take a few potshots at the opponent especially since he has been the recipient of numerous false allegations. I do suggest they may have used too many of the Obama's selections, i.e. Stevie Wonder. No one could have been better than Jennifer Hudson - the best rendition I've ever heard. The Republicans must be angry for this success and know they can't top it so we can expect a lot of sour grapes coming Obama's way. --Linda Storm

I think his speech was good and he seems on top of what we want to hear, or is it . I am tired of it being all about him being a black man. He is as much a white man as he is black. And with them always talking about the first black man becoming our leader .to me the real topics are shadowed he seems to be a good man; it's too bad its all about his being black he is as much white. Good luck to both men black or white may the Lord be with them both and help us in are choice for the good of our people. God bless. --Kim

Exceptional! I haven't felt so hopeful about the future of this country since J.F.K. and Bill Clinton. And I am an independent voter. But Obama gets my vote this time! He has a difficult road ahead, and I don't think all of Congress is going to help! It is going to be difficult! --Rita B. Girard

I think Obama's speech was just awesome. I am finally able to vote this year and I am excited about it. I never was interested in any of the elections until now. He gives me hope about this country, I truly think if he wins the country will come together like it should. – Trish

i think Obama speech was very much historical. His mentioning of Martin Luther King,I believe was a massage that no matter what your race, creed or religion is, you can accomplish anything and lead a nation for a better America. – debbie

It was the most moving, promising speech I have heard. It touched on every important topic and the sincerity he brought to the speech brought tears to my eyes. Go, Barack!! --Judy Jones

Great speech from a great speech writer. If I thought for one minute that Mr. Obama could accomplish 1/10th of what he said he would do in his speech tonight I would vote for him. Fortunately, I have lived long enough to have seen this political speak many times before and am not impressed at all. Mr. Obama represents far too much of a risk for me to vote for him. – Dennis Ley

I thought his speech was very good. I kept saying to myself - when is he going to tell us what he can do for us. Well he really spelled it out for us. I am a 60+ year old and am concerned about health insurance and social security. I have been a Republican for 40 years, but unless Obama does something awfull, I guess I will be voting for him. I want my Grandkids to get a good education, I want affordable healthcare and I want our country to become whole again. – Roni Schmidt

Perfect! Obama addressed "all" Americans with the issues we face in America today, and most importantly sound solutions of change that we need (and deserve). Barney Smith summed it up best--we're tired of the government worrying about Smith Barney instead of "Barney Smith". I think Joe Biden is a fantastic running mate that should quell any fears or suspicions about Obama's impending abilities to lead--together we all win--the Obama/Biden team is unstoppable!!! Good for "All Americans". p.s. never in my life have I such hope and admiration for a candidacy that will help America get on the right track, as I do these two. OBAMA/BIDEN '08! – Faye

I think Obama's speech made Americans, especially black americans extremely proud.I feel that his speech just continues what martin Luther king jr'S "i have a dream "speech enbodied. – Yolanda

This country cannot afford to have four more years of a Republican in the White House. I think he promised exactly what needed to be promised and will do what he says he'll do. He really does connect well with the people and know exactly what the "regular" people have gone through in our lives. He grew up in a single family home and understands what needs to be accomplished. As Jesse Jackson Jr. just said, he really did hit a home run with this speech. – Susan

So what? Nothing in it for me. He talked of jobs, but won't put the long-term unemployed in a separate group for help. Employers can reject applicants for no stated reason and there is no recourse. We know people are discriminated against just for being involuntarily unemployed. Obama seems like a Social Darwinist, just like anyone reading thing who thinks there must be something wrong with me. – Jean SmilingCoyote

Obama's speech brought me to tears. It made me for the first time in a long time believe in the US again. I just wish I could believe what politicians say. They what you need to hear and then somehow the fruit never ripens on the tree. I so badly want to believe. – Sally Olin

The speech was concise, compassionate, uplifting, motivating and absolutely memorable. G Cohen

one america for all americans...it's as if the sun is attempting to shine through the grey clouds.. That describes the way I personally felt listening to the next President of the United States spell out EXACTLY what he intends to accomplish...A new day IS dawning and I am so PROUD to be a part of this historical event!! – chris gerulat

I thought Obama's speech was excellent. He left no stone unturned. May God bless him to become our next presient of the United States. – bobbi

Breath taking!! - Gloria
