Man Accused Of Murder For Nephew's Heroin Overdose

WOODSTOCK, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― The uncle of a McHenry County man who died of a heroin overdose has been charged with murder after police learned he bought the drugs that led to his nephew's death.

Kendrick Vogt, 30, was found unresponsive in a residence in Harvard on March 23, according to a release from the McHenry County Sheriff's office. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital and an autopsy determined he died from a heroin overdose.

The sheriff's Narcotics Unit investigated his death and found that he allegedly received heroin from his uncle, Wade Smith, the release said.

Smith, 40, of Rockford, allegedly purchased $100 worth of heroin in Rockford and gave some of the drugs to his nephew, the release said.

Smith was charged with drug-induced homicide and ordered held in the McHenry County Jail on $1 million bond, the release said. He will next appear in court on July 20.
