Funeral Set For Chicago Woman Found Dead In Woods

Nailah Franklin Was Missing For 9 Days Before Her Body Was Found

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
CHICAGO (CBS) ― A funeral is scheduled for Wednesday to honor the life of Nailah Franklin, whose body was found last week in a wooded area in Calumet City after a frantic nine-day search.

Franklin's family calls it a celebration of her life.

Investigators found a naked, badly decomposed body found behind a vacant Calumet City business this past Thursday morning. Investigators from the Cook County Medical Examiner's office used dental records to positively identify the badly decomposed body as Franklin. The body might have been in the location where it was found for a week.

But the autopsy was unable to pinpoint a cause of death. That means, for now, police are calling this a death investigation, not a homicide case.

The medical examiner's office said a couple of weeks would be necessary to determine the cause of death for Franklin, because of the pending police investigation.

Franklin was reported missing on Sept. 19 after failing to show up for an important work meeting. The 28-year-old victim worked for Eli Lilly & Co. since February 2006. The company took out a full page newspaper ad about her disappearance Thursday.

Her family and friends have set up a memorial fund in her name at The Chicago Community Trust.
