Police: Missing Student Flew Back To Vietnam
RIVER FOREST, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A 20-year-old international student reported missing last Thursday from west suburban River Forest left the area on a flight to her native Vietnam.
Trang Nguyen, last seen on Oct. 7 and reported missing Oct. 9 after her aunt could not contact her, voluntarily left the United States and returned to Vietnam, according to a release from River Forest police.
U.S. Customs and other federal authorities confirmed that she flew from Chicago to Los Angeles and then to Vietnam on Oct. 8, the release said. Her itinerary was verified by visa, passport and flight information.
Nguyen was studying at English Language Services on a student visa, and being housed at Concordia University in River Forest, university spokeswoman Kim McCullough said. The university provides housing to more than 20 students attending ELS.
During the investigation of her disappearance, police did not suspect foul play and said there were no sign of a struggle.
Deputy Chief Dan Dhooghe said Nguyen took certain items from her room at Concordia that indicated she was planning to leave.
"She left some belongings, and took other things," he said.
Nguyen had been in the country for six weeks, and did not know many people.
