Man Charged With Murder in Death of 67-Year-Old

Bond Denied For Former Tenant

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― Bond was denied Sunday for a man accused of murdering a 67-year-old man, whose body was found burning inside a Southwest Side home Friday night.

Martin Vega, 28, of the 5000 block of South Talman Avenue, was charged late Saturday with one count of first-degree murder, according to police News Affairs.

Vega was denied bond during a Sunday hearing, according to a Cook County Circuit Court clerk.

Vega is accused of killing William Hallin, whose body was found burning inside a home at 5045 S. Talman Ave., authorities said.

Emergency personnel responded about 6 p.m. Friday to the home and found an "obviously deceased" man on fire, according to Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford.

A Saturday autopsy determined Hallin, of 6112 S. Kenneth Ave., died of blunt head trauma from an assault and the death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Hallin was dead on the scene.

Police had no details on a motive and the relationship between Hallin and Vega was not immediately available.

Vega is expected to appear in court again Monday.
