Teen Charged With Murder In Humboldt Park

CHICAGO (STNG) ― An 18-year-old man was charged with murder early Monday after an argument in the Humboldt Park neighborhood led to the shooting death of a 20-year-old man on Saturday.

Mariano Hernandez, 18, of the 900 block of North Pulaski Road, was charged with first-degree murder, according to a Harrison Area police sergeant who said the charges were approved early Monday.

Hernandez was expected to appear in Cook County Criminal Court, 2600 S. California, for a bond hearing later Monday, according to the sergeant.

About 12:25 a.m. on Saturday, two men -- one identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Jesus Ramirez, 20, and the other 50 years old -- were involved in an argument in the 4400 block of West Cortez Street, a report from the police First Deputy Superintendent's office said.

Gunfire erupted and Ramirez suffered a fatal gunshot to his head, while the other man suffered a gunshot to his leg, the report said.

The man shot in the leg was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and is listed in "stable" condition, according to the report.

Ramirez, of 4444 W. Crystal St., was pronounced dead at 4:45 a.m. on Saturday at the Stein Institute, the medical examiner's office said.

Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
