Man Charged With Sexual Assault Of Five Girls
Gerardo Chaparro Was Visiting Girls As A Family Friend
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
Bail was denied Tuesday for a Chicago man charged with sexually assaulting five girls between the ages of 6 and 13, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
Judge Colleen Hyland denied bail for Gerardo Chaparro, 47, who was charged with four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and two counts of criminal sexual assault, according to Andy Conklin of the state's attorney's office.
Chaparro is charged with sexually assaulting the girls while visiting them as a friend of the family between May 12 and June 5 of this year, according to the charging documents.
Calumet District police began investigating the situation on Friday after a witness notified them of the abuse, the release said. Chaparro turned himself in at Area 2 Headquarters on Sunday, the release said.
According to Conklin, Chaparro offered a hand-written confession to sexually penetrating at least one of the girls and improperly touching another on June 8. In his statement, Chaparro also said he knew the ages of the girls, Conklin said. A witness to the incidents told another person, who contacted police, he said.
Chaparro's next court appearance will be for a preliminary hearing at noon on Friday, June 30, in Violence Court, Conklin said.
