The body of a man that was pulled from Lake Michigan on Monday morning near Grant Park is that of a Springfield man.
A morning jogger called 911 about 6:20 a.m. when he noticed the man's body floating in the water just off shore at 700 S. Lake Shore Dr., according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis.
He stayed on the scene until fire crews arrived and pulled the man out. The victim was dead but was clothed and had identification on him, according to Curtis.
The man has been identified as Matthew Dennison, 40, of 1509 Stevens in Springfield, according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. Dennison was pronounced dead on the scene.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
The medical examiner's office would not confirm a report from a police source that Dennison is an employee of the Sangamon County Clerk's office who was in town for a convention.
