Two Rescued After Boat Capsizes On Kankakee River
KANKAKEE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
Two people were rescued by emergency crews Thursday morning after a boat capsized in the Kankakee River.
The incident happened just before 10 a.m. near the Washington Street Bridge over a dam in the river, according to Kankakee Fire Chief Ron Young.
Two men were in a boat when it overturned over the dam, Young said. The men were able to get to an area where they could stand in waist-deep water and remained there until police were able to launch a rescue boat.
Rescue crews were able to reach the men within 25 minutes, Young said. Both were being evaluated by paramedics as of 10:40 a.m. One of the men suffered a small laceration, but it was unclear whether they would be hospitalized.
The incident is under investigation by Kankakee police.
