A popular radio personality who encourages folks to focus on the positive is John Williams. And he has something to smile about in his own life today. CBS 2's Vince Gerasole reports that Williams comes across as smart and folksy - as well as refreshingly self-deprecating.
Now he's about to follow in the footsteps of Chicago broadcast legends Bob Collins and Wally Phillips as WGN radio's new morning host on one of the most listened to programs in the Midwest.
Williams will take over on December 15 for Spike O'Dell who is retiring after 8 successful years behind WGN's AM mic. William's current mid-day show is a mix of humor and thoughtful discussion.
CBS 2 caught up with him during a segment he calls the "Bright Side" where callers share the little things in life that make them smile in tough times.
"It does seem to work. If you could have the discipline of telling yourself sometimes, wait a minute, I have my health or I have my children or when I come home, my dog wags his tail so hard, his butt almost comes off," Williams said. "And that's a good moment. I need to remember that."
