Suburban Man Charged With Raping 5-Year-Old Girl

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (STNG) ― A far north suburban man is being held on $500,000 bond after being charged with sexually assaulting a 5-year-old for more than a year while living with the girl's mother.

Robert F. Sinsun, 41, of Beach Park, was arrested by Lake County Sheriff's police Wednesday and charged with one count each of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

On Aug. 18, the girl's mother told police that Sinsun, her part-time live-in boyfriend, had been abusing her 5-year-old daughter between May 2007 and July 2008, the release said. Investigators then spoke with a friend of the family who had obtained the allegations from the victim.

Sinsun was arrested at his place of employment Wednesday evening and following questioning by officers, Lake County State's Attorney's office authorized the charges, the release said.

Lake County Judge Christopher Stride set the $500,000 bond on Thursday and set a preliminary hearing for 9 a.m. on Sept. 9 in Waukegan. Sinsun, who remains in the Lake County Jail as of Thursday afternoon, faces up to 50 years in prison if convicted, the release said.

"Our investigators will continue to work with the States Attorney's Office to keep these child sexual abusers locked up," Sheriff Mark Curran said in the release. "There is nothing worse than an adult who rips the innocence of a child away by abusing them."
