CHICAGO (CBS) ―
Five people were injured this morning in a crash involving a Fire Department ambulance on the West Side.
Fire Department ambulance 34 was involved in a crash at Madison Street and Keeler Avenue. Three cars were also involved.
The two fire employees in the ambulance were taken to an area hospital, along with three civilians, one of which was a 12-year-old child, as Kris Habermehl reported from Chopper 2.
The two paramedics were transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition, Rodriguez said. The 12-year-old and another civilian were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "fair to good" condition.
Two of the victims were reported in serious condition, but it was not immediately learned which ones.
Madison Street was closed between Kildare Avenue and just east of the crash side at Keeler Avenue.
The ambulance was headed to one of two incidents in which people were hit by trains not far from the scene, with its lights and sirens running. One person was hit by a Metra train at Leamington Avenue and Kinzie Street, another by a Green Line CTA train at Lake Street and Central Avenue. The person hit by the CTA train is confirmed dead.
