Chicago Man Charged In Evanston Shooting

SKOKIE, Ill. (STNG) ― An 18-year-old Chicago man is being held on $1 million bond after being charged with attempted murder in the September 2007 shooting of a north suburban man.

At the Skokie Courthouse on Thursday, Troy Randle was ordered held on $1 million bond, according to a release from Evanston police. He was charged Wednesday with two counts of attempted murder and one count each of aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated battery with a firearm.

Early in the morning of Sept. 18, 2007, Evanston police received a call of shots fired in the 800 block of Case Street, and arrived to find a 27-year-old Skokie man unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds, the release said. The injuries were so severe that detectives were unable to conduct a full interview with him until late last year.

Evanston police and the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force had been investigating the case since the night of the shooting, interviewing neighbors and potential witnesses, the release said, but had no solid leads until interviewing the victim. That interview led to the identification of a potential witness, who provided information as to who may have been with the victim prior to the shooting.

Detectives began to seek a person of interest in the case and when that subject was arrested for an unrelated incident in a neighboring suburb, a second subject was identified and sought for questioning, the release said. That second person of interest was Randle, who police were unable to locate until this week.

After he was brought in for questioning and provided a statement, the Cook County State's Attorney's office authorized the charges. Randle is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. on April 7 in Skokie.
