Bond was set at $800,000 Monday for a Southwest Side man charged with attempted murder after allegedly biting off a part of his girlfriend's ear during an argument.
Corral Botello, 40, of the 4000 block of South Brighton Place is charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of aggravated domestic battery, according to police.
Botello was ordered held on $800,000 during a Monday hearing, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin said. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Nov. 16 in Domestic Violence Court (Br. 64).
Botello was taken into custody after the victim checked herself into John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.
Police said he beat his girlfriend during an argument in their Brighton Park neighborhood home.
The woman remained in serious condition late Sunday with multiple injuries, police said.
According to unconfirmed dispatch reports, detectives recovered part of the woman's ear at the scene. Police could not confirm how much of the ear was bitten.
It is unknown what the couple were fighting about or how the fight got started. Police said drugs or alcohol are not suspected.
