Weekend Work To Snarl Blue, Yellow, Green Lines
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
Maintenance work on the CTA's Blue, Yellow and Green Lines will close stations and lengthen commutes this weekend.
On the Blue Line, service between the Cumberland and Rosemont stations from 9 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Monday will be temporarily suspended as crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes in an effort to eliminate slow zones, the CTA said.
Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute between the Cumberland and Rosemont stations, but the CTA advises customers to allow extra travel time.
On the Yellow Line, rail and highway grade crossings replacement work will suspend service and close the Skokie station from 11 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday. Additionally, the north and southbound tracks will close intermittently at the Oakton and East Prairie crossovers, the CTA said.
Customers are advised to use the No. 97 Skokie bus as a substitute. The CTA will also provide additional Skokie buses between the Skokie and Howard stations to supplement service before and after Cubs games. Additionally, shuttle buses will operate Saturday from 10:05 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. and from 3:05 p.m. to 4:35 p.m. On Sunday, the shuttle buses will operate from 11:20 a.m. to 1:20 p.m. and from 4:20 p.m. to 5:50 p.m., the CTA said.
Customers will be able to transfer to Purple and Red Line trains at the Howard station.
On the Green Line, trains will be running on a single-track between the Harlem and Austin stations from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. the following morning from Sunday until Thursday while crews conduct track maintenance and repair work.
Southbound customers at the Oak Park, Ridgeland and Austin stations must board and exit trains on the northbound side of the platform, the CTA said.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
