The City of Harvey has been plagued with problems and Wednesday proved to be a boiling point, when State Police raided the police station.
CBS 2's Alita Guillen reports ten murders have gone unsolved in Harvey so far this year.
On Wednesday investigators from the States Attorney's Office and Illinois State Police raided the Harvey Police Department. For four hours they collected evidence related to unsolved crimes including murder.
"I want to see security protection," said Harvey resident Beatrice Olu.
A former employee and mayoral candidate says the problem comes from a lack of organization.
"It's really a sad day for the residents. We deserve better," said mayoral candidate Marion Beck.
Last year a detective was charged with wrong doing in Harvey. He claimed he was following Mayor Eric Kellogg's orders. Kellogg has never been charged related to that case.
Another mayoral candidate is now asking for Kellogg's immediate resignation.
"Enough is enough," mayoral candidate Anthony McCaskill said. "We're tired, the citizens are tired."
In a statement Wednesday night the mayor said in part "I stand in full support of the investigation and pledge full cooperation with the matter.
Corruption and police misconduct is not and will not be tolerated."
There have reportedly been more than 40 murders in Harvey since Kellogg took office. Many have gone unsolved. The Harvey residents CBS 2 spoke with say they hope Wednesday's raid leads to arrests in those unsolved cases.
