Woman Struck By Blue Line Train On Near West Side
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
A woman was critically injured after being struck by a CTA Blue Line train at a Near West Side station early Thursday.
An elevated southbound Blue Line train struck a pedestrian about 12:45 a.m. at the Racine station at 430 S. Racine Ave., CTA spokeswoman Wanda Taylor said.
Police early Thursday are investigating whether the woman jumped in front of the train or fell under the train.
A Monroe District police captain said a woman in her 20s fell under the train as it was pulling out of the station. People aboard the train who saw the incident said it may have been an accident.
However, police reports indicate the woman jumped in front of the train as it approached the station, police said. Monroe District police continue investigating the incident early Thursday.
Police said the woman was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in critical condition.
As of 2:30 a.m., normal service has resumed and shuttle bus service that was in place between the Medical District and LaSalle stations has ended, Taylor said.
Northbound service was not affected.
