The only Cadillac dealership in Joliet will remain open after all.
The Bill Jacobs Chevrolet-Cadillac dealership was supposed to close by October of next year. The move was part of a General Motors corporate downsizing plan.
But after a great deal of public outcry and numerous petitions signed local merchants and Joliet residents, the dealership has won the fight to stay in business.
'I think it's good for the community, because of jobs," said Joliet resident Renee Wright. "People would lose jobs if it moves."
Scott Sopko of Bill Jacobs Chevrolet-Cadillac gave U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson (D-Ill.) credit for taking action when the dealership was endangered.
"All of our faithful Cadillac and Chevrolet customers just rallied around us, and that was great, and once Debbie Halvorson got involved, Congresswoman Halvorson has been a driving force," Sopko said.
There will be a celebration at the dealership at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 2.
