February Trial Date Planned For Rezko
Fundraiser Pleads Not Guilty To Kickback Scheme
CHICAGO (AP) ―
A federal judge wants prosecutors and defense attorneys to work toward a February trial date for indicted political fundraiser Tony Rezko.
Both sides told U.S. District Judge Amy St. Eve on Wednesday that they need more time to prepare their cases. But the judge reserved Feb. 25 and encouraged everyone to aim for that date.
Rezko appeared at the brief hearing but didn't speak. He has pleaded not guilty to charges he plotted to squeeze millions of dollars in kickbacks out of investment firms seeking state business.
St. Eve on Wednesday also set a status hearing in the case for Oct. 17.
