Prosecutors Want No More Breaks In Probation Violation Case

SKOKIE, Ill. (CBS) ―
Chicago Bears defensive tackle Terry "Tank" Johnson could be headed to jail.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported that prosecutors do not want to give Johnson any more breaks.
Johnson was arrested twice on gun charges and once for assaulting a police officer. He could be sentenced to up to a year in jail for violating his probation.
He pleaded guilty to that offense before a Skokie Court judge last month. The probation violation came from a 2005 weapons violation by having guns in his home in December.
The misdemeanor carries a maximum sentence of a year in jail and a fine of up to $2,500.
Johnson has entered a plea of not guilty in Lake County on 10 counts of possessing a weapon without the proper state-required ID. In that case, Johnson's attorneys are trying to get the charges dropped on the grounds that he is a legal resident of Arizona and is not bound by Illinois' registration laws for firearms owners.
On Dec. 14, Gurnee police raided his home and found six guns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
That same weekend, Johnson's best friend Willie Posey was shot to death at a bar.
The Bears imposed a list of requirements for Johnson's conduct, which team officials said Johnson has met. Johnson was permitted to play in the Super Bowl.
Johnson's attorneys have argued he does not deserve jail time for the probation violation.
