$80,000 Bond: Woman Accused Of Fatal Hit-And-Run

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― Bond was set at $80,000 Saturday for a woman accused of driving the rental truck that fatally struck a man in a hit-and-run accident Thursday night on the Northwest Side.

Talia Ramos, 22, of the 2400 block of North Harding Avenue, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injury/death and failure to give information/render aid, police said.

Cook County Circuit Court Judge Jackie Portman set bond at $80,000 Saturday, according to a court clerk.

Ramos was also ticketed for striking a pedestrian in the roadway, negligent driving, not having insurance and not having a driver's license, police said.

Ramos is accused of driving the Budget rental truck that fatally struck 57-year-old Arturo Brancho near North Cicero Avenue and West Grace Street, authorities said.

Ramos was allegedly speeding east on Grace Street when the truck allegedly struck Brancho as he attempted to cross the street, police said.

Brancho, of an unidentified home address, was pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center at 12:03 a.m. Friday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

After striking Brancho, the truck continued east on Grace Street, but Albany Park District police found the truck and Ramos a short time later at 3202 N. Kilbourn Ave., police said.

A man was also initially taken into custody, but no charges were filed against him, police said.

Grand Central Area detectives and the police Major Accident Investigation Unit are investigating.
