O'Hare Expansion Fight Returns To Court
Village Of Bensenville Fights City Of Chicago Over Planned Demolition
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
The O'Hare expansion fight heads back to court Wednesday, with attorney from west suburban Bensenville trying to stop the city from tearing down hundreds of buildings.
An emergency request in DuPage County Circuit Court on June 29 delayed the demolition of as many as 370 properties in Bensenville until Wednesday at the earliest. The properties were scheduled for demolition as early as the day of the hearing, but attorneys at the time agreed to suspend plans until there's a hearing on Bensenville's request for a permanent restraining order against the demolition.
Bensenville attorneys said the project violates the village's local ordinances. But Chicago officials said state law allows the project without demolition permits from Bensenville.
Bensenville officials have fought the $15 billion planned expansion at O'Hare International Airport for years.
The FAA has said the expansion project will reduce delays at the airport by 68 percent.
